Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — This tourist destination will host the first Flamenco Fusion Festival honoring Paco de Lucía on February 28 at the City Theater, bringing international artists together to celebrate the legacy of the influential Spanish guitarist.
Organizer Marta de Juana presented the event, highlighting the artistic and symbolic significance of Paco de Lucía, considered one of the most influential musicians in contemporary flamenco.
“Talking about Paco de Lucía means talking about excellence, revolution, and cultural identity,” de Juana said. “He was born in Algeciras, Spain, and took flamenco guitar to a universal dimension without losing the roots of flamenco.”
The promoter emphasized that the concert will take place in Playa del Carmen, where the artist chose to spend his final years with family and friends. She noted that paying tribute in this setting is deeply symbolic, as it was here that he closed his life cycle.
The festival will feature international artists who were colleagues, admirers, and heirs to his musical legacy, in a gathering aimed at keeping alive the flame of one of flamenco’s greatest exponents worldwide.
With this tribute, Playa del Carmen strengthens its cultural agenda and positions itself as a meeting point for artistic expressions with international reach.
