Playa del Carmen Athletes Win 72 Medals at CONADE National Olympics

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Mayor Estefanía Mercado hosted a recognition ceremony for athletes and coaches from Playa del Carmen who competed in roller skating and sailing at the CONADE National Olympics, contributing to Quintana Roo’s sixth-place finish nationally.

During the event organized by the Municipal Sports Institute, the mayor congratulated the athletes for representing the city with distinction.

Athletes from Playa del Carmen won a total of 72 medals — 25 gold, 19 silver, and 28 bronze — across disciplines including roller skating, sailing, swimming, taekwondo, weightlifting, wrestling, surfing, artistic swimming, and boxing.

In roller skating alone, the Playa del Carmen delegation secured 11 gold, 8 silver, and 10 bronze medals, while sailing added 8 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze.

“I want to congratulate and recognize you because you are great warriors from Playa del Carmen who fill us with pride. As mayor, I feel like the champion of champions because we have a team of young people who are raising the name of Playa del Carmen high,” Mercado said.

The mayor highlighted that behind each medal lies a story of sacrifice, perseverance, and teamwork, and acknowledged the work of coaches and families who support the athletes’ development.

Mercado reiterated that sports will remain a priority for her administration through improved sports infrastructure, talent development programs, and ongoing support for athletes.
