Motorcyclist Killed in Crash With Luxury SUV on Highway 307; Driver Detained After Attempting to Flee

Scene of a fatal crash between a motorcycle and a luxury SUV on Highway 307 near Tulum, with police and emergency services present.

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A motorcyclist died after being struck by a luxury SUV on federal Highway 307 near the Vesica cenote, at kilometer 214 on the Tulum-Playa del Carmen stretch. The driver allegedly tried to leave the scene but was later detained by authorities.

According to initial reports, the driver of the high-end vehicle was attempting to overtake when he veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with the motorcycle. The impact threw the motorcyclist several meters across the pavement.

Bystanders called emergency services after seeing the seriously injured rider. Paramedics and civil protection personnel arrived but could only confirm the victim had no vital signs.

Police cordoned off the scene while investigators and ministerial agents carried out their work. The body remained beside the highway for several hours, causing traffic disruptions in both directions.

Witnesses said the SUV driver got out of the vehicle after the crash and tried to leave, apparently to avoid responsibility. He was later detained and handed over to ministerial authorities for further proceedings.

The accident caused long vehicle lines due to the partial closure of one lane while forensic work and body removal were carried out by the State Prosecutor’s Office.

The victim’s identity has not been officially released, and it is not yet known whether the detained driver was under the influence of any substance. Investigations continue to determine the exact circumstances of the crash and the legal status of the suspect.
