Tulum, Quintana Roo — Tourism authorities in Quintana Roo are working with the management of the Tulum International Airport to restore air service to key international markets, including Panama, Colombia, Canada and the United States.
Quintana Roo Tourism Secretary Bernardo Cueto Riestra met with Marcos Martínez Amparán, the airport’s general manager, and his team to review the terminal’s current conditions and identify opportunities to attract more visitors. Haydee Hernández Pastrana, the state’s tourism director, said the meeting also focused on recovering flights that previously connected Tulum with destinations such as Panama and Colombia.
Officials said they are coordinating with municipal and airport authorities and are establishing contacts with airlines through incentive programs to make those routes attractive again.
“They are already working on strong incentives to hold meetings with airlines through Mundo Maya and bring the flights back,” Hernández said.
She added that the group also discussed reactivating winter routes from Canada and the United States, including the connection to Newark, New York, as well as other international routes planned for the upcoming season.
Hernández stressed the close coordination among the state tourism secretariat, the municipal tourism directorate, the Tulum municipal government and the airport administration to create better connectivity conditions.
“Good things are coming for the airport and the destination,” she said.
Authorities said recovering and expanding air routes will be key to strengthening tourism activity, increasing international arrivals and establishing Tulum International Airport as one of the main gateways to the Mexican Caribbean.
