Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Young people in Quintana Roo will have a new public higher education option with the arrival of the National Rosario Castellanos University in Playa del Carmen, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa announced in coordination with the federal government and with the support of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
For the 2026 school year, the new campus will open 400 online slots distributed across five strategic degree programs: Artificial Intelligence Engineering, Psychology, Tourism, Economics and Sustainable Development, and Humanities and Multimedia Narratives. Each program will have 80 places available.
Lezama explained that the offering is part of the expansion of the National Rosario Castellanos University, whose rector is Dr. Alma Xochitl Herrera Márquez. The institution aims to expand access to university studies for young people without requiring them to leave the state, especially in regions with high demand for professional training.
“Education is the most powerful tool to build well-being. In a world where knowledge drives innovation and growth, opening more university spaces means generating more opportunities, more social mobility, and a future with greater shared prosperity,” the governor said.
Registration is open from today until June 26, 2026. The entrance course will run from June 29 to July 26. Selected students can enroll from August 3 to 7, with classes starting August 31, 2026.

The first semester will be taught online as a transition phase, after which students will move to an in-person university experience.
“Today we take another step so that our youth can build their future here, in their own land, with free, quality public education,” Lezama said.
