Cancun, Quintana Roo — A judge has ordered pretrial detention for Enrique Alfonso “N,” a man accused of extorting the owner of a property in Cancun’s Supermanzana 510 neighborhood.
The State Prosecutor’s Office obtained the detention order after presenting evidence before a control judge, who also ruled to formally charge the suspect.
According to the investigation, the alleged extortion began in February 2025, when the suspect reportedly demanded 100,000 pesos (about $5,000) in exchange for removing vehicles from the property. He also allegedly threatened the victim with violence from a criminal group if she did not pay.
Prosecutors said the suspect later increased the demand to 250,000 pesos and intimidated both the victim and her husband, claiming to have personal information about them and alleged connections within the government.
The case was handled by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Kidnapping and Extortion. After the victim filed a formal complaint, state investigators obtained an arrest warrant and took the suspect into custody.
As a precautionary measure, the judge ordered pretrial detention for the duration of the judicial process.
