Family of Man Who Died at Cancun Hotel Alleges Investigation Irregularities, Social Media Censorship

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The family of a 23-year-old man who died after falling from a hotel balcony in Cancún is accusing the resort of cleaning the scene before investigators arrived and of censoring social media comments about the incident.

Amado Isaac Sánchez Lomelí, a recent graduate of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL), died on the night of June 21, 2026, after falling from the eighth floor of the Occidental Tucancún hotel, according to his family.

Nearly a month later, relatives and social media users say the hotel has restricted comments on some of its TikTok posts and removed reviews related to the case from its Google listing.

Family Alleges Investigation Irregularities

The family has called on the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office to conduct a transparent, impartial, and thorough investigation. They claim that the area where the body was found was cleaned before forensic experts arrived, potentially compromising evidence. They also say they were not allowed to view the body until the following day, which they consider a lack of transparency.

Additionally, the family alleges that the hotel asked them to pay for extra nights while they completed paperwork following the death.

These claims have not been confirmed by authorities.

Social Media Censorship Allegations

In recent days, users have reported that the Occidental Tucancún hotel disabled comments on some of its TikTok videos after hundreds of people began asking about the case. Others say that comments about the incident posted in Google reviews have been deleted or are no longer visible.

The hotel has not issued a public statement regarding the family’s accusations or the moderation of comments on its digital platforms.

The State Prosecutor’s Office continues its investigation into the death.
