Kantunilkin, Quintana Roo — Four municipal police officers assigned to the community of Nuevo X-Can were abducted and beaten by unknown assailants early Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The armed group arrived at the delegation during the early hours and forcibly took the four officers stationed there. Residents reported hearing gunshots during the incident.
The officers — three men and one woman — were beaten and tortured before being released hours later at the same location. They were rushed to the IMSS-Bienestar hospital in Kantunilkin, where they remain hospitalized.
A helicopter from the state Public Security Department landed at the Los Almendros baseball field in the city to transport one of the injured officers, who is reportedly in serious condition.
The area was placed under heavy security by police and military forces. As of Tuesday evening, neither the Lázaro Cárdenas municipal government nor the state government had issued an official statement on the incident.
