Cancún, Mexico — An Argentine driver lost control of her vehicle after apparently falling asleep at the wheel on Federal Highway 307 near Punta Venado on Friday morning, prompting a response from emergency services.
According to information gathered at the scene, the woman was traveling southbound on the federal highway when, likely due to fatigue, she lost control of the car.
The vehicle left the asphalt and was propelled into a green area beside the road, where it came to a stop with severe front and side damage.
Other motorists in the area alerted authorities via the 911 emergency number, which allowed National Guard officers from the Caminos division to arrive promptly.
The officers secured the scene, placing warning flags and signs to prevent another accident, as the crashed vehicle posed a risk to traffic by distracting drivers.
Minutes later, paramedics from a private company arrived and provided pre-hospital care to the driver. After an assessment at the scene, they determined she had no serious injuries, only minor bruises and a nervous crisis from the incident. The woman chose not to be taken to a hospital, signing the corresponding medical refusal, after which the paramedics left.
A tow truck was later called to remove the vehicle from the green area. The unit was towed to an impound lot while federal authorities carried out standard administrative procedures.
