Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The Secretary of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters responded to a report of an ammonia leak at an ice factory located alongside Boulevard Playa del Carmen, prompting the evacuation of residents in the area.
According to a statement from the agency, following the incident, operational personnel activated safety protocols, which included the evacuation of approximately 200 people residing in the Casa Selva Maya and Paraíso Playa Oasis subdivisions near the site of the incident.
In coordination with the Secretary of Citizen Security, firefighter units are carrying out work to locate and contain the leak to secure the area and prevent greater risks for workers and residents.
Authorities established a command post and first aid station at Avenida 28 de Julio and Carretera Federal. A call was made for the surrounding population to remain attentive to official information and avoid approaching the contingency area.
Likewise, it is recommended that those in nearby areas close doors and windows, cover ventilation sources, and not expose themselves to vapors that may emanate from the site while the control efforts are concluded.
