Cancun, Quintana Roo — Police discovered the body of a woman buried in the patio of her home late Saturday night in the SM 46 neighborhood, prompting a large-scale investigation.

The body was found around 11 p.m. during a court-authorized search of the property, part of an ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Lizbeth Bustos Vera, who had been reported missing since June 16 and had an active missing persons alert (file number 557/2026).

Neighbors said the victim had two children, a 10-year-old girl and a boy around four years old. They also reported that authorities had been monitoring the home on Bacalar Street, near the intersection with Kohunlich Avenue, for several days.

During the search, investigators and forensic personnel entered the property with shovels and picks after detecting suspicious signs in the patio. According to preliminary information, the alleged perpetrator, identified unofficially as a Cuban man, had placed a concrete slab over the body in an attempt to conceal it.

Investigators also seized a Volkswagen Vento believed to belong to the victim, which was turned over to the State Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities interviewed neighbors, who said the victim had been in a relationship with the suspect for about seven months. They stated they always saw the children with the woman. The whereabouts of the children remain unknown.

The State Prosecutor’s Office continues its investigation to locate and arrest the suspect.
