Woman Accuses Judge of Delaying Rape Case 17 Times in Chetumal

Judge Marbella Doporto Orozco accused of delaying a rape case hearing 17 times in Chetumal, Quintana Roo

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A woman has filed a public and criminal complaint against a judge in Chetumal, accusing her of delaying an initial hearing 17 times in a rape case that dates back to 2024.

The victim, identified as Clara Yesenia Castañeda, said in a phone interview that the alleged attacker, who was her cousin’s partner at the time, raped her after a family gathering. She said the repeated postponements have prevented the case from moving forward to the formal charging stage.

According to Castañeda, the investigation file includes forensic evidence such as DNA tests that support the accusation. She argued that the delays show the judiciary is blocking the process.

The defense claims the prosecutor’s office has been unable to formally charge the suspect because of the repeated adjournments. Castañeda said the constant rescheduling amounts to re-victimization, forcing her to face repeated setbacks without any resolution.

She has filed a complaint against Judge Marbella Doporto Orozco, who is assigned to the Othón P. Blanco municipality, accusing her of obstructing access to justice. Castañeda said the “procedural blockade” favors impunity and raises questions about some judges in the new judicial system.

She also asked authorities to investigate whether the judge has any family ties to the accused.

“I’m not looking for money. I’m sure, and there is evidence that he did it. I have witnesses, I have calls. I want justice, and for him to pay as he should,” Castañeda said.

She called for a prompt and impartial trial, as guaranteed by the Mexican Constitution and the accusatory criminal system.

Judicial authorities have not issued a public statement on the complaint.
