Police Raid Cancún Store for Videos in Deadly Attack on Construction Workers

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Investigators raided a convenience store Thursday night in Cancún’s Valle Verde neighborhood as they search for evidence in an armed attack that killed three construction workers and wounded two other people earlier this week.

The search warrant at the San Marcos mini-super was tied to the store’s security cameras, which authorities believe may have captured the attack or the gunmen’s movements. According to unofficial reports, police investigators initially asked the business owner for the footage, but he allegedly refused to hand it over, prompting the State Prosecutor’s Office to seek a court order.

With the warrant, agents entered the store and seized the storage devices containing the recordings. The material will be examined by prosecutors to help identify the attackers and determine their escape route.

The attack took place Tuesday morning at the intersection of Valle Verde and Bruma streets, in block 43 of the neighborhood. According to preliminary findings, several armed men on motorcycles fired more than 20 shots at a group of people standing outside the mini-super.

The gunmen fled and were tracked by C5 video surveillance cameras as they crossed Cancún. They later abandoned motorcycles in the La Joya area, where authorities also located other possible evidence.

The shooting killed three people, all identified as construction workers: two from Chiapas and one from Guatemala. Two other victims were injured and remain hospitalized.

With the footage in hand, the State Prosecutor’s Office hopes to reconstruct the attackers’ movements and make headway in identifying and capturing them. The mini-super remained secured by authorities as the investigation continues.
