Missing 11-Year-Old Girl From Holbox Found Safe in Chetumal

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — An 11-year-old girl reported missing from the island of Holbox last week was found safe and sound in Chetumal, authorities said Monday.

Jade Alexa was located six days after family members told officials she had left her home on the island to walk to a store and never returned. Her disappearance triggered a widespread search and a social media campaign.

The Quintana Roo Public Security Department (SSC) said the girl was found in the state capital as a result of search efforts coordinated by Grupo Centurion, a specialized search unit. After her location, she was placed in the custody of the appropriate authorities, who began procedures to verify her condition and ensure her well-being.

Officials have not said how the girl traveled from Holbox to Chetumal, where she stayed during the six days she was missing, whether she was with anyone, or the specific circumstances of her discovery.

During the search, a rumor circulated on social media claiming the girl had contacted her family and said she was OK. Hours later, relatives denied that, saying the reported call was false, and asked the public to continue sharing the missing-person alert.
