Two Crocodiles Rescued From Road in Yucatan

Two crocodiles being handled by rescuers on a road in Sinanché, Yucatán

Sinanché, Yucatán — Two crocodiles, one about 1.5 meters long and a smaller juvenile, were captured on a stretch of the Sinanché-Telchac Pueblo highway early Saturday after residents reported the reptiles were at risk of being run over.

Municipal authorities requested assistance after spotting the larger crocodile on the asphalt at kilometer 1 of the state road. Officers and local residents worked together to secure the adult crocodile and a 25-centimeter hatchling found nearby.

Both animals were safely transported and released into the San Crisanto marsh, their natural habitat.

Officials urged the public to report similar encounters and avoid approaching wild animals.
