Tulum Offers Tax Breaks to Aid Businesses in Slow Months

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo announced Monday that he will present a fiscal stimulus proposal to the City Council next week, aimed at supporting businesses and taxpayers during the traditionally slow months of August and September.

The initiative includes discounts on property tax, business licenses, traffic fines, and other administrative fees. Various municipal departments have already submitted their proposed incentives, which the council will review before approval and implementation.

“We are going to present a series of fiscal stimuli to the council due to the situation in these two months, August and September. We need to help people and give them the opportunity to get regularized, which is the most important thing,” Castañón said.

If approved, the city will set up service modules staffed by personnel from multiple departments to inform citizens about available benefits and streamline regularization procedures. The proposal includes a 10% discount on property tax payments and waste collection fees, among other charges.

The mayor urged residents to conduct transactions directly at the Municipal Treasury and avoid using intermediaries or fixers. He stated that all authorized personnel must carry official identification and warned that anyone soliciting money to expedite procedures should be reported. Cases of alleged corruption or abuse by public servants will be investigated, and those found responsible will be removed from their positions, he added.

The city will continue coordinating with state and federal authorities to strengthen support for the business sector and the general public.
