Playa del Carmen Deploys Security Operation at Cemeteries for Day of the Dead

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Municipal authorities are launching a special security and prevention operation at the cemeteries of Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras as families and visitors arrive for Day of the Dead celebrations.

Darwin Covarrubias, secretary of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention and Firefighters, said the deployment will place officers on constant patrol at both municipal cemeteries. Their work will focus on spotting potential hazards, keeping watch over the grounds and guiding visitors who come to remember their loved ones.

Paramedics and ambulances will also be stationed at the two cemeteries to provide free pre-hospital care, allowing authorities to respond quickly to any medical emergency that arises as crowds gather.

The operation will run in coordination with the Citizen Security Department, whose officers will reinforce surveillance. Civil Protection officials asked residents to take care when using candles, avoid blocking entrances and walkways, keep children under supervision, pay special attention to older adults and follow instructions from staff on site.

Authorities said the preventive and emergency-response work will continue throughout the Day of the Dead celebrations, which draw both local families and tourists to the cemeteries.
