Cancún, Quintana Roo — Hotels and other service-sector businesses in Quintana Roo can now obtain clean-energy generation equipment with no upfront investment through the Fondo Solar Quintana Roo program, which aims to cut their electricity bills by at least 30 percent.
The initiative was presented under an agreement between the state Environment and Ecology Department (SEMA) and Finergy Capital. At the announcement, Gerardo Lagunes, a SEMA deputy secretary for environmental culture, planning, regulatory improvement and archives, said the energy transition can help lower costs and strengthen businesses’ competitiveness.
No down payment, lower rates for up to 25 years
Under the scheme, Finergy Capital finances the installation of electricity generation equipment at selected sites, and participating companies make no initial outlay and take on no loan to acquire the systems. The power produced is used directly at their facilities, under a model that offers cheaper rates for a period of up to 25 years.
According to projections presented at the launch, incorporating 100 average-sized companies could generate combined savings of roughly 100 million pesos a year. The program is also expected to prevent about one million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
The project additionally calls for local workers and suppliers to take part in installing the equipment, with the aim of generating economic activity in the state while expanding the use of clean-energy technology.
