Cancún, Quintana Roo — Gunmen in a black car opened fire on two men Thursday afternoon beside a middle school in this city’s Región 228, wounding both before fleeing, authorities said.
The attack took place at the corner of Calle 88 and Calle 75, next to the Javier Rojo Gómez middle school. Witnesses reported that the assailants drove up to the corner, fired and then sped away in an unknown direction.
One of the injured men was taken to the Hospital General “Jesús Kumate Rodríguez” by acquaintances, while the other remained on the ground until an ambulance arrived. Paramedics took him to the same hospital, where officials described his condition as serious.
Police officers searched the surrounding streets but did not locate the vehicle or the attackers. Officers cordoned off the scene and were waiting for investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office to begin processing evidence.
