Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — A 17-year-old girl is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after escaping a two-day captivity in the Maya community of Chumpón, where she was allegedly tortured by her boyfriend.
The victim, identified as Yaneli “N,” suffered multiple fractures, internal injuries, and wounds from sharp objects, including machete cuts, electrical cord marks, and knife wounds, according to unofficial reports. The incident occurred in Chumpón, about 52 kilometers north of the municipal seat.
Relatives said the teenager was held against her will by her partner, Gabriel “N,” 28. She managed to escape when he let his guard down and sought help from a neighbor. She was first taken to the local police post and then rushed to the General Hospital of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
Medical staff reported she arrived with significant blood loss and severe weakness. She remains under observation as specialists monitor her condition.
The State Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation. Ministerial police have launched a search for the suspect, who faces charges that could include attempted femicide given the severity of the injuries and alleged history of violence. The attack has sparked outrage in Chumpón, where residents are demanding justice and a gender-perspective investigation.
