Tulum, Quintana Roo — The Tulum city council on Sunday approved the appointment of Raziel Ek Cruz, former director of the municipal cadastre and local leader of the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM), as the new municipal treasurer. He replaces Vicente Francisco Aldape Moncada, who resigned after being arrested on federal firearms charges.
The appointment was ratified during an extraordinary virtual council session convened solely to name the new treasury chief.
Before taking the post, Ek Cruz served as director of the cadastre, a position he resigned to assume the treasury role. He has also been the municipal leader of the PVEM since October 2025.
During the session, council trustee Rifka Queruel Nussbaum expressed reservations about the process, noting that council members lacked sufficient information, institutional background, and documentation to cast a fully informed vote, given the importance of the position and its implications for municipal public finances.
