Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — The beaches of Puerto Morelos will become the epicenter of international sports as the town hosts the fourth edition of the International Beach Volleyball Festival, bringing together more than 300 competitors from Mexico and abroad from May 15 to 17.
The event is considered one of the most important sporting gatherings in the Mexican Caribbean, featuring athletes from Brazil, Spain, Germany, Canada and the United States, as well as players from Mexican states including Jalisco, Nuevo León, Veracruz, Sonora, Puebla and Mexico City.
During the official presentation, Sustainable Tourism Secretary Karina Vázquez highlighted that such competitions boost the municipality’s tourism promotion and generate significant economic revenue for local hotels, restaurants and businesses.
The sporting activities will run from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on nine regulation courts set up on Puerto Morelos beaches. Organizer Gabriela Rivera explained that the tournament will include women’s, men’s and mixed categories in both open and master divisions, along with new divisions to broaden participation.
The program kicks off Friday, May 15, with the mixed tournament; Saturday, May 16, will feature regular rounds and the opening ceremony, while finals and awards will take place Sunday, May 17.
Organizers anticipate hotel occupancy rates higher than in previous seasons and estimate the participation of 150 teams, a figure that would set a historic record for this international tournament.
