Cozumel Launches Million-Dollar Fishing Tournament With All-Cash Prize

Fishing boats docked at Cozumel's San Miguel pier for the Rodeo de Lanchas Mexicanas tournament

Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Cozumel is gearing up for the 55th edition of the Rodeo de Lanchas Mexicanas, one of the most anticipated sportfishing tournaments in the Mexican Caribbean, scheduled for May 15-17.

The competition will center on San Miguel Pier, where dozens of teams and anglers will set out to sea starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Organizers expect more than 150 boats to participate, promising a surge in tourism, sports activity, and economic impact for the island.

The major highlight this year is that the prize pool will be awarded entirely in cash, raising expectations among national and international competitors.

The first-place winner will receive 500,000 pesos (approximately $25,000 USD), second place 250,000 pesos, and third place 150,000 pesos.

Official weigh-ins of caught species will take place between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., the decisive moment that will determine who claims the prestigious tournament and the top prize.
