Puerto Morelos Expands Surveillance Network With 31 New Cameras

Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Puerto Morelos has expanded its municipal video surveillance system with the installation of 31 new monitoring cameras, bringing the network to 147 cameras across 30 smart monitoring points.

Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz led the inauguration of the new infrastructure, which is designed to strengthen surveillance and response in areas of high tourism, commercial, and residential growth. The cameras are linked to the Municipal Command and Control Center (C2).

The expansion adds six new strategic monitoring points:

• Central Vallarta, kilometer 15
• Tren Maya station, kilometer 32
• Torres de Luz
• Cement plant area, kilometer 2
• Pozos Quiñones, kilometer 27
• Selvática, kilometer 19

The new equipment includes fixed high-definition cameras, PTZ technology with 360-degree movement, zoom capability, and license plate readers. These tools provide real-time information to support surveillance and emergency response efforts.

During the event, Tziu Muñoz highlighted that the system expansion responds to the growth of the Ruta de los Cenotes, one of Quintana Roo’s most important tourist corridors, where commercial and service activity continues to rise.

“With these new cameras we continue expanding a technological tool that allows us to monitor different points of this area of the municipality,” the mayor said.

Manuel Alejandro Nava García, municipal secretary of citizen security, explained that the new monitoring points are connected to the municipal C2, where personnel continuously review the information generated by the devices. Each point integrates specialized technology for continuous recording, dynamic monitoring, and data access to improve response capacity for citizen reports.

The municipal network is now distributed as follows: 100 cameras in the municipal seat and hotel zone, 16 in Leona Vicario, and 31 along the Ruta de los Cenotes.

The investment exceeds 5.3 million pesos and is part of the municipality’s efforts to strengthen public security technology infrastructure.
