Jose Maria Morelos, Quintana Roo — More than 300 mototaxi drivers from at least 12 groups held an alternative parade on Friday after the official Labor Day march, voicing their discontent over various issues affecting their sector.

The convoy started at the Rojo Gomez baseball field, proceeded along Jose Maria Morelos Avenue, turned onto Chilam Balam Street, continued along 8 de Octubre Avenue, and ended at Hidalgo Avenue near the central park. The demonstration lasted about 20 minutes as drivers rode their vehicles carrying banners and signs directed at authorities.

One sign read: “Mototaxistas of J.M.M. Out with traitors of the 4T! Out with Morena councilors! Out with Inmoveqroo, the people judge you!” Another stated: “The mototaxi is the livelihood of the Maya people, respect our work and our families, respect our customs and traditions, indigenous law.”

Other banners included: “Mototaxistas: municipal autonomy, customs and traditions,” “Common front of mototaxistas of the Maya zone, united we will never be defeated,” and “The enemies of indigenous peoples are this government, out with Morena.”

The group rejects the intervention of Inmoveqroo, the state mobility institute, and has expressed its intention to return to the traditional customs and practices under which they previously operated. The protest was peaceful and without incident.
