Police officers securing the area after a fatal shooting in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man was shot and killed Monday night in the Palmas I neighborhood, becoming the latest victim of violence in this tourist city. The victim managed to drive himself to the General Hospital but died upon arrival due to the severity of his wounds.

According to initial reports, the attack occurred on Avenida Las Palmas at Flor de Acanto street, where the man was trying to enter a home when he was ambushed by individuals on a motorcycle. Witnesses said the assailants approached and fired multiple times, unleashing about eight shots. At least three bullets struck the victim, causing critical injuries.

After the shooting, the attackers fled in an unknown direction. No arrests have been reported. The wounded man left the scene on his own and drove to the General Hospital, where medical staff attempted to treat him but soon confirmed his death.

Police officers arrived at the scene to secure the area. The perimeter remained cordoned off while forensic experts processed the scene and collected spent shell casings scattered on the street. The evidence was added to the homicide investigation file.

Forensic personnel later went to the hospital to recover the body for legal procedures. The victim remains officially unidentified. As of late Monday, authorities had not located or captured the suspected gunmen. The investigation continues to determine the motive and identify those responsible.
