Mérida, Yucatán — A man has been ordered to remain in pretrial detention after state prosecutors charged him with fraud in connection with a travel agency in the Vergel II neighborhood.
The State Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Alejandro Z.E. alleging he failed to honor services purchased through the agency. According to criminal case 146/2025, the victims bought two Chepe train excursion packages, each priced at 13,500 pesos, after seeing a promotion on social media.
Prosecutors said the contract the buyers later received did not match what was offered. When they asked to cancel and obtain a refund, the money was never returned.
Following a request from prosecutors, a judge imposed preventive detention for the duration of the proceedings. A hearing to determine whether the defendant will stand trial is scheduled for August 5, after the defense asked to extend the constitutional deadline for a decision.
The precautionary measure aims to prevent the accused from fleeing while authorities determine his responsibility in the alleged fraud, officials said.
