Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — An armed man robbed a hardware store on Avenida Juárez in Playa del Carmen on Saturday, prompting a large police response and a search for the suspect.

The robbery took place around noon at El Metro hardware store, located in the San Judas Tadeo area. The suspect entered the store with a firearm, stole merchandise, and fled, according to preliminary reports.

Emergency services were notified through the 911 line. Municipal police officers arrived first, secured the area, gathered initial testimony from witnesses, and checked on the staff.

Officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security and federal authorities later joined the operation, reinforcing patrols and conducting an extensive search for the suspect.

Officials have not yet disclosed the value of the stolen items or reported any arrests. The heavy presence of patrol vehicles caused commotion among people passing through the area.
