Merida, Yucatan — Firefighters extinguished a fire Saturday morning at a pizzeria in the Delio Moreno Cantón neighborhood in southern Merida, with no injuries reported.
The blaze broke out inside La Pizzada, prompting a major response from firefighting and police units. A passerby noticed a thick column of smoke coming from the business and called 911. Officers and firefighters arrived within minutes and began working to keep the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.
Firefighters brought the fire under control in a short time. Officials reported no injuries or cases of smoke inhalation, and damage was limited to the interior of the restaurant.
After the fire was extinguished, authorities cordoned off the area to carry out inspections and determine what caused the blaze. No official cause has been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
