Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man identified as José Ángel “N” has been formally charged with attempted femicide, human trafficking, and family violence after a series of attacks on a 16-year-old girl, authorities said.

According to the investigation, the suspect contacted the victim through social media and invited her to his home in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood, where they spent time together on several occasions.

The abuse began on April 15, when the victim was staying at the suspect’s home. After she left briefly to run personal errands, José Ángel “N” called her, verbally assaulted her, and made jealous accusations, demanding she return immediately. The teen complied.

On April 16, the encounter escalated into verbal abuse. When the victim tried to leave, the suspect forbade her, accusing her of infidelity. The following day, both allegedly consumed drugs. The victim lost consciousness and, in intermittent moments, realized she was being sexually assaulted.

Around midnight, the teen attempted to flee but was intercepted by the suspect’s father, who asked her to stay and “sort things out.” When she returned to the room, the suspect physically attacked her, grabbing her by the neck with his arm and threatening to kill her.

The victim lost consciousness again. She later reported being hit in the face and ribs and suffering cuts from a broken mirror during the struggle. She required hospital treatment.

After the victim filed a complaint, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for José Ángel “N.” At a hearing, a judge ordered him held in pretrial detention for the duration of the proceedings.
