Bomb Threat on Viva Aerobus Flight From Cancun Turns Out to Be False Alarm
Mexico City — Mexico City International Airport activated emergency protocols Saturday after receiving a bomb threat against a Viva Aerobus flight arriving from Cancun, authorities said. A thorough search found no explosive device, confirming the incident was a false alarm.
The threat targeted aircraft with registration XA-VBM, which had just arrived as flight VB1029 from Cancun. The plane was parked at Gate 13 of Terminal 1 when the alert was received. The same aircraft was scheduled to depart later as flight VB1104 to Merida.
Security personnel from AVSEC and the Naval Airport Protection Unit deployed to the scene. A specialized Explosive Ordnance Disposal team conducted a full inspection of the aircraft and luggage.
After completing all security protocols, officials reported no evidence of any explosive device, confirming the alert was unfounded.
The incident occurred as President Claudia Sheinbaum was in Cancun for the official inauguration of the Nichupté Vehicular Bridge, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic flow in the hotel zone.
