Health Officials Sanction 10 Water and Ice Vendors in Quintana Roo

Inspectors check water and ice facilities in Quintana Roo

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Health authorities have sanctioned about 10 water and ice vendors across Quintana Roo for failing to meet sanitation standards, officials announced.

The state’s Directorate of Protection against Health Risks conducted nearly 50 inspections at factories and retail outlets in municipalities including Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Chetumal and Tulum. Inspectors checked chlorine levels and hygiene practices to ensure the water distributed to the public is safe.

Jaime Torres Viveros, head of the agency, said most penalties were imposed because businesses operated with chlorine levels below the permitted minimum. He noted that many establishments correct the violations and can resume operations afterward.

In addition to temporary suspensions, authorities have imposed fines ranging from about 11,000 to more than 35,000 pesos, depending on the severity of the infraction.

Torres Viveros warned that consuming water that does not meet sanitary standards poses health risks and urged businesses to maintain strict quality controls.
