Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Authorities arrested four men suspected of belonging to a criminal cell operating between Cancún, Puerto Morelos, and Leona Vicario, in connection with the disappearance and murder of a 24-year-old woman.
The arrests took place during an operation on the Puerto Morelos-Leona Vicario highway near the Ruta de los Cenotes. Investigators and municipal security officers intercepted a vehicle carrying the suspects, seizing several long guns, a pistol, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, tactical gear, and suspected drugs.
Those detained were identified as Ezequiel Lucas, from Puebla; Enrique “N,” alias “El Fili”; Bryan Alejandro “N,” alias “El Tocino,” both from Jalisco; and Eduardo Neftalí “N,” from Michoacán.
According to the investigation, the four are linked to the disappearance and subsequent murder of a 24-year-old woman reported missing in Cancún on May 16. Her body was found days later in the Ruta de los Cenotes area, a major tourist and natural corridor in Puerto Morelos.
The victim was a mother of four children, who are now under the care of relatives. Authorities believe the crime is connected to drug dealing activities, though they continue gathering evidence to determine each suspect’s level of involvement and possible links to other violent incidents in the region.
The four suspects were handed over to a judge, who ordered pretrial detention while the judicial process continues.
The State Prosecutor’s Office has opened multiple investigation files to clarify this homicide and other crimes possibly linked to the same criminal cell.
