Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Around 50 semi-fixed vendors who work on the Explanada de la Bandera will be temporarily relocated to make way for construction of Chetumal’s Barrio Mágico, a project scheduled to begin in late September, the Othón P. Blanco city government announced.
Óscar Dzib, the city’s director of inspections, said the work will be carried out in stages, meaning vendors will not have to leave the high-traffic area entirely and can keep running their businesses.
He said officials have already met with the vendors to inform them about the temporary changes and to explain the benefits expected once the renovation of the public spaces is complete.
Dzib stressed that the move is not a permanent removal, but only an adjustment to the location of the stalls while construction moves forward.
The project covers the Andador Héroes, Avenida 22 de Enero, the Manuel Ávila Camacho theater and other sites within the first square of the Barrio Mágico in Chetumal.
