Cancún, Quintana Roo — Five people were injured late Saturday in a serious collision between a tourist van and a private car on the Mérida-Cancún bypass, near the Maya Train station.
The crash occurred around 11 p.m. Emergency responders, including Red Cross paramedics, civil protection personnel, private medical services, firefighters and National Guard officers, worked to free one of the injured who was trapped in the wreckage.
The injured were taken to different hospitals for urgent medical treatment.
National Guard officers interviewed both drivers, who gave conflicting accounts of what happened. Both were turned over to the public prosecutor’s office to determine responsibility through investigation and accident reconstruction.
The crash caused traffic congestion in the area until authorities removed the vehicles and had them towed to an impound lot.
