Cancun, Quintana Roo — Travelers at Cancun International Airport’s Terminal 2 faced a familiar set of frustrations on Sunday, including a shortage of seating and aggressive transportation touts, even as passenger numbers remained moderate.
Despite the quieter-than-usual crowds, travelers arriving at Terminal 2 or waiting for relatives reported that benches and chairs were insufficient. Some passengers ended up sitting in hallways or on the floor, while others saw available seats occupied by bags and hats.
Transport touts, some claiming to offer “official taxi” service, reportedly approached visitors repeatedly and followed them even after being told they already had transport or were waiting for family. According to those at the airport, a group of Argentine tourists was among those harassed.
Passengers seeking help at the Profeco (Federal Consumer Protection Agency) desk found it unattended for the duration of the Sunday shift, leaving them with no on-site consumer assistance during delays and cancellations.
Flight operations remained moderate but uneven. The airport logged 410 flights on Sunday, with at least four cancellations and 12 to 15 delays in arrivals and departures. Over the course of the past week, only three days exceeded 400 operations, with several days falling below 390.
Local travelers and visitors say the combination of limited seating, pressured transport offers, and unanswered consumer-support points leaves a poor impression of Cancun’s main gateway, regardless of how busy the terminal actually is.
