Man Arrested With Stolen Vehicle After Chase in Cozumel

A black Volkswagen Gol reported stolen after a police pursuit in Cozumel

Cozumel, Quintana Roo — A man identified as Luis Ángel N. was arrested in Cozumel on suspicion of receiving stolen property after police found him driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen, authorities said.

Officers from the investigation unit of the Citizen Security Secretariat, along with municipal police, the National Guard, the Mexican Army and the Mexican Navy, were conducting a patrol on 85 Avenida Sur Bis when they spotted a black compact car speeding and making reckless lane changes that put pedestrians and other motorists at risk.

Officers signaled the driver to stop, but he ignored the order and attempted to flee, prompting a pursuit. Police eventually cut off the vehicle and detained him. A preventive inspection of the driver and the car followed.

A check of the vehicle’s plates on the C5 911 emergency platform showed the car had been reported stolen on January 17, 2025. The driver could not present any documents proving legal ownership.

Authorities seized the vehicle, a black Volkswagen Gol with Quintana Roo license plates. The suspect and the car were turned over to the State Prosecutor’s Office to determine legal responsibility.
