Cancún, Quintana Roo — A fourth person has died from injuries suffered in a shooting in the Valle Verde neighborhood, raising the death toll to four and leaving one survivor hospitalized.

The latest fatality was identified as Carlos Alberto, a 45-year-old construction worker. He died early Sunday at the General Hospital, five days after the attack on a house that authorities say was used as a drug sale and consumption point.

The shooting occurred Tuesday morning, when gunmen opened fire on five people gathered outside the home, located on the neighborhood’s main road about 600 meters from José López Portillo Avenue. Three people were killed at the scene: Jesús N., 46, a native of Chiapas; Martín N., 58, a native of Guatemala; and Daniel N., 56, also from Chiapas. All three were construction workers and part of a group known locally as “teporochos,” a term used for street drinkers.

Red Cross paramedics rushed Carlos Alberto to the hospital, where he was reported in serious condition with a bullet wound to the chest and two additional injuries to his right forearm and lower back. He underwent surgery but died from his wounds.

The second injured man, Carlos Mario, 46, from Tabasco, remains under medical care. He is blind and suffered a bullet wound that entered and exited the right side of his chest without apparently damaging vital organs. He told investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office that he is homeless and was drinking with friends when the attack occurred.

Investigators said the attack was likely carried out by members of a criminal group seeking to maintain control of drug sales in Valle Verde. Forensic teams recovered 26 spent shell casings of various calibers at the scene. Two motorcycles abandoned by the attackers were later found in the La Joya subdivision, in Supermanzana 254, between Acerina and Cuarzo streets.

In the days after the shooting, authorities carried out a search of a convenience store near the attack site to collect exterior security camera footage in hopes of identifying the suspects.
