Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The beaches of Isla Mujeres have earned the Playa Platino distinction for the fifth consecutive year, recognizing the municipality’s ongoing work in sustainability, cleanliness, and conservation.
The certification was awarded after an evaluation this weekend by the Mexican Institute for Standardization and Certification (IMNC). Playa Norte and Playa Centro both received outstanding ratings during the assessment.
According to municipal officials, the distinction acknowledges the permanent measures in place to keep both beaches clean, safe, and well-maintained, as well as broader efforts to protect Isla Mujeres’ natural resources.
Daily maintenance by ZOFEMAT crews
The recognition also highlights the daily work of personnel from the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT), who clean and maintain the beaches from early morning. Their efforts keep the beaches in prime condition for residents and visitors while helping to preserve the island’s tourism appeal.
Isla Mujeres strengthens sustainable tourism
With this certification, Isla Mujeres continues to build its reputation as a responsible and sustainable tourism destination. The municipal government said it will keep working to maintain clean, safe beaches and protect the natural beauty that distinguishes the Pueblo Mágico for present and future generations.
