Kantunilkín, Quintana Roo — The 49th edition of the Expo Feria Kantunilkín, an agricultural, livestock, crafts, and cultural fair, officially opened Thursday evening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by local and state authorities. The five-day event is one of the most important traditional fairs in the region.

The fair showcases high-genetic-value cattle, fresh agricultural products, regional handicrafts, and nursery plants. Organizers said the event serves as a key platform for the primary sector and a gathering point for families and visitors.

On Saturday, a federated horseback ride will bring together dozens of riders from surrounding communities, highlighting the area’s ranching heritage. Evening entertainment includes cultural performances and public dances.

To boost the local economy, the municipal Fiscalization Department, led by Manuel Canché Tah, granted more than 80 commercial spaces free of charge to small entrepreneurs. “We want this fair to be a real economic engine. By eliminating the cost of spaces, we allow small business owners to offer their products at more accessible prices, benefiting both producers and consumers,” a committee source said.
