Driver Critically Injured After Crashing Into C5 Surveillance Pole on Federal Highway 307

A white pickup truck with severe front-end damage after crashing into a metal pole on a highway

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A driver was critically injured Thursday afternoon after his pickup truck slammed into a metal pole supporting C5 surveillance cameras on Federal Highway 307, near the Bahía Príncipe hotel bridge. The crash caused significant traffic delays in the area.

The accident occurred when a white Nissan NP300 work truck, bearing Quintana Roo license plates, was traveling south to north from Tulum toward Playa del Carmen. According to preliminary reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and crashed head-on into the metal structure housing the video surveillance cameras.

The impact destroyed the front of the truck. The driver suffered severe injuries and was trapped inside the vehicle. Passing motorists called emergency services.

Private ambulance paramedics arrived within minutes and provided pre-hospital care. Due to the severity of his injuries, the driver was transported in critical condition — code red — to the IMSS-Bienestar hospital in Playa del Carmen for specialized treatment. He reportedly sustained multiple blunt-force injuries from the crash.

Civil protection personnel also responded, directing traffic and securing the area to prevent further accidents. The truck was partially blocking the roadway and had leaked oil onto the pavement. Crews spread dirt over the affected area to reduce the risk of skidding while rescue operations continued.

The accident caused significant congestion as lanes were reduced and drivers slowed down to look at the scene. Traffic moved slowly in both directions for several minutes.

Despite the severity of the crash, no National Guard personnel — the agency responsible for federal highway incidents — had been reported at the scene at the time of reporting.

Authorities will investigate the exact cause of the accident, including whether excessive speed, road conditions, or mechanical failure played a role.
