Man Known as ‘El Moreno’ Fatally Shot in Tulum

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A man known by the alias “El Moreno” was fatally shot Sunday night in the Carlos Joaquín informal settlement in Tulum, prompting a major response from police and emergency services.

The attack occurred near the property where the victim reportedly rented a living space. Neighbors alerted emergency lines after hearing several gunshots and discovering a wounded person.

Officers from Tulum’s Public Security and Citizen Protection Department arrived and found the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They requested Red Cross paramedics, who pronounced him dead at the scene. Police secured the area to preserve possible evidence.

Witnesses told investigators they heard about seven gunshots before the victim was found, a detail that will have to be corroborated through the investigation.

The victim was preliminarily identified only by his alias, “El Moreno,” and was reportedly a native of the state of Tabasco. Neighbors said he lived in the area and that the shooting took place outside the home he rented.

After the death was confirmed, State Police officers and members of the Jaguar tactical group reinforced security in the surrounding area. Investigators and forensic experts from the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office in Tulum arrived to process the scene and gather evidence.

Once initial processing was completed, forensic medical personnel removed the body and transported it to their facilities, where an autopsy will be performed and formal identification will be established.

No arrests have been reported and no motive has been publicly established. The prosecutor’s office continues its investigation to identify and locate those responsible.
