Crime scene tape at Villas Otoch Paraíso in Cancun where a decapitated body was found

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Authorities launched an investigation Monday after the decapitated body of a man was found in two separate locations in the Villas Otoch Paraíso neighborhood.

Residents reported a body lying on Orquídeas Avenue, known as Ruta 5, in Sector 259 around 8 a.m. Police and paramedics from the Health Department confirmed the victim had no vital signs.

During the initial investigation, officers discovered the victim’s head inside a trash container on Leona Vicario Street, near block 102 of the same housing complex. Both scenes were secured for forensic examination.

Municipal and state police, Mexican Navy personnel, and agents from the State Prosecutor’s Office processed the scenes and collected evidence. Investigators plan to review surveillance cameras near where the body was found.

Unofficially, neighbors identified the victim as Erick Pitar C., 30, from Michoacán, and suggested he may have been involved in drug sales in the area. Authorities have not confirmed that information but said the case may be linked to organized crime.
