Couple Arrested in Cozumel After Assaulting and Threatening Police

Police officers detain a man and woman in Cozumel after they assaulted and threatened officers during a traffic stop.

Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Police in Cozumel arrested a man and a woman Tuesday after they allegedly assaulted and threatened officers who stopped them for reckless driving in the city center.

The suspects, identified as Ana Luisa “N” and Alen Armando “N,” were turned over to the State Prosecutor’s Office on charges of disobedience and resistance to authority.

According to officials, officers on patrol spotted a motorcycle speeding and weaving dangerously through traffic, endangering pedestrians and other drivers. The officers intercepted the vehicle on Rafael E. Melgar Avenue in the downtown area and informed the occupants why they had been stopped.

During the encounter, both individuals became aggressive, hurling insults and threats at the officers, authorities said. Police then detained them following protocol.

Officers also seized a red Italika DS125 motorcycle with Quintana Roo license plates.

The Public Security Department reported that Alen Armando “N” may be linked to several thefts at businesses in Plaza La Mega, including jewelry stores and cell phone shops. Authorities urged anyone who recognizes the suspect as possibly involved in other crimes on the island to file a complaint with the State Prosecutor’s Office to aid the investigation.
