Cancún Steps Up Inspections for Adulterated Alcohol in Bars and Hotels

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Hotels, bars, and other businesses that sell alcoholic beverages are facing ongoing inspections aimed at detecting adulterated products and ensuring compliance with health and tax regulations.

During the checks, officials verify the authenticity and origin of the drinks, as well as the presence of tax stamps and fiscal records that prove the products entered the market legally.

Authorities said they have detected some irregularities, though so far they have not found a significant quantity of adulterated alcohol. When an irregular product is discovered, it can be seized and later destroyed to keep it off the market.

Fines range from 200 to 600 UMA, a Mexican index-linked unit used for penalties, depending on the severity of the violation. Officials said inspections will continue at all establishments that sell alcoholic beverages.
