Taxi Driver Held in Fatal Hit-and-Run of Motorcyclist in Cancun

A taxi driver in handcuffs is led by police officers in Cancun.

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A taxi driver has been ordered to stand trial on aggravated homicide charges for the death of a motorcyclist in a hit-and-run last year, according to the State Prosecutor’s Office.

Alexander “N” is accused of driving a Nissan taxi on the wrong side of Avenida Lombardo Toledano on August 3, 2025, and colliding head-on with a motorcycle traveling from south to north in the Supermanzana 247 neighborhood.

The motorcyclist was thrown onto the pavement and was still alive after the crash. Investigators say the taxi driver failed to stop and render aid, and that the taxi then ran over the victim, causing injuries that proved fatal.

After the incident, Alexander “N” allegedly fled the scene. He was arrested on August 16, 2026, nearly a year later, after prosecutors obtained a judicial warrant.

At a hearing, a Control Judge ruled there was sufficient evidence to proceed with the case and ordered pretrial detention while the judicial process continues.
