Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández, the General Secretary of the Benito Juarez municipality, has announced an upcoming meeting with public transport providers. The meeting, scheduled for Monday, will focus on service quality and fare rates. The municipal government's primary goal is to enhance the quality of service for citizens and transition to an integrated public transport system. Although open to dialogue and consensus, the municipality insists that fare increases cannot be discussed until service improvements are evident.
Fernández reminded attendees that the previous administration (2018-2021) had initiated the transition to a comprehensive public transportation system. This system would incorporate all existing modes of transport in Benito Juarez, and necessitate modifications to the relevant regulations. These changes, which now include a chapter on this transition, were delayed due to the pandemic.
The upcoming negotiations will focus on collaborating with both state and municipal transport providers, as well as the Mobility Institute of Quintana Roo, to implement these changes.
Fernández stated, "I believe this is a great opportunity for us all to collaborate and transition towards a system that will benefit the city and provide quality service. We aim to create a transport system that reflects the standards of Cancún. We will be revisiting topics such as transport corridors, among other aspects of this Comprehensive System."
