Mérida, Yucatán — Chichén Itzá will reopen to the public on Monday, June 1, after authorities reached an agreement with artisans who sell goods at the archaeological site, officials announced.
The decision follows dialogue between the federal government, the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), the Yucatán state government, and the Tinum municipal government, along with local artisans.
Access to the site will be exclusively through the Visitor Center (CATVI), authorities said.
The reopening is part of a broader strategy to organize and strengthen tourism and commercial activity at the site, improve visitor experience, and support the economic activities of nearby communities.
Officials reaffirmed their commitment to preserving cultural heritage, ensuring the well-being of local communities, and promoting orderly, sustainable, and inclusive tourism.
