Cancun, Quintana Roo — The Cancun International Rescue Brigade (BRIC) announced its return home after more than a week of search and rescue operations in Venezuela, following two powerful earthquakes that struck the country.

In an emotional social media post, the brigade described the warmth and gratitude they received from Venezuelans despite the devastation. “We went to support you in a very difficult moment, and amid the pain we found the warmth of a people who, having lost almost everything, still had hands to offer: flowers for Muúneek, candies with handwritten notes, food to replenish our strength, a smile, a ‘thank you’ that came from the heart,” the brigade wrote.

BRIC thanked emergency services, authorities, private companies, volunteer groups, and every individual who offered support. “Thank you. You reminded us why we do this,” the statement read.

“We return with our hearts full of your people. Solidarity knows no borders. It was an honor to support you,” the brigade concluded.

On June 26, BRIC requested assistance from Volaris airlines to travel to Venezuela after two earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 shook the country. Hours later, the airline provided transport, and the brigade arrived on June 27. Since then, they conducted rescue operations in La Guaira, the area hardest hit by the quakes.

Days ago, BRIC completed its original rescue program and appealed to citizens, businesses, and institutions for donations to cover the return of personnel and equipment, as they lacked sufficient resources.
