Governor Mara Lezama speaking at the inauguration of the CECyTE 2026 National Academic Festival in Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The National Academic Festival of the Colleges of Scientific and Technological Studies (CECyTE) 2026 opened in Cancún on Tuesday, bringing together students, teachers, and education officials from 29 Mexican states for three days of academic, cultural, and integration activities.

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa inaugurated the event at the Technological University of Cancún, one of the most important gatherings for upper-secondary technological education in Mexico.

Lezama emphasized the importance of creating spaces that strengthen students’ academic and personal development, and promote science, technology, and values as tools for social transformation.

Silvia Mendoza, director general of CECyTE Quintana Roo, noted that this is the first time the state has hosted the national festival, which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the CECyTE subsystem in Quintana Roo.

National CECyTE coordinator Iván Flores Benítez said the festival reaffirms the schools’ commitment to comprehensive education and the strengthening of the National Baccalaureate.

The event runs from May 19 to 21 and includes academic competitions, cultural presentations, and opportunities for students from different regions to share experiences and projects focused on the future of technological education in Mexico.
